Nintendo suing streamer who played pirated Switch games
Don't think this is going to go well
Nintendo is hypervigilant of piracy and emulation, to a degree that some fans find off-putting. While the debate concerning emulation will always rage on, I think it’s safe to say most people side with Nintendo in their efforts to squash piracy specifically. It’s well-known just how far Nintendo will go to fight against piracy, which makes it surprising to see how brazen some people are when dabbling in the problematic activity.
Case in point, streamer EveryGameGuru, who would continuously stream clearly pirated games. Not only would EveryGameGuru stream Switch titles that hadn’t seen public release yet, he would also tell his viewers to pirate Nintendo’s software. He engaged in these activities across Discord, YouTube, Twitch, Kick, and other platforms.
Nintendo had a few of EveryGameGuru’s channels and accounts taken down, which led to the streamer emailing Nintendo directly. He told Nintendo that he had “a thousand burner channels” to stream on and he “can do this all day.” He also pledged to point his viewers to Switch emulators so they could play Nintendo’s games without having to purchase a Switch. We know all this because Nintendo has now officially filed a lawsuit against EveryGameGuru for his actions.
Nintendo is seeking $150,000 per infringement of its copyright, and with Nintendo saying that EveryGameGuru streamed pirated content on at least 50 occasions in the last 2 years, that would mean he’ll owe Nintendo $7.5 million. We’ll keep track of this lawsuit to see where it goes, but from the outside looking it, it certainly seems like an open-and-shut case.

There's protesting drug policy, and then there's openly selling crack across from a police station.
He deserves every penny of that lawsuit just for the crime of being a dumbass.

25d agoClout chasing tough guy content creation-brained generation checking in here, f’ing around. Finding out. Dont feel that bad at all. He’s going to be made an example of if he’s actively promoting the tools and methods to break laws. There are smarter ways to go about protesting a company’s practices once you have a bit of a platform

25d agoI only emulate games once a console is 2 generations old, so when Switch 2 comes out, I migth look into WiiU and 3DS emulation. And I play mostly games that I also physicaly own. And even then, most of times I prefer to play on the console itself, it's more when I hear about fan mods and tweaks that elevate a game that I might trie it.
