There have been a number of a remakes in The Legend of Zelda franchise, but certain games haven’t been touched since their original release. That includes the very first Legend of Zelda, and while Nintendo themselves may not have plans to return to the game, one fan has decided to take the project on.

Animator Hugo Vasgestian dos Santos has been eager to try his hand at game-making, and he decided a great project to start out with would be a remake of the original Legend of Zelda. Not only is Hugo tackling a revamp of the classic, he’s also doing so by applying his animation skills to the project.

As you can see in the video above, Hugo is doing away with the original game’s pixel graphics and instead going for a hand-drawn approach. As you can imagine, a project like this is an incredible amount of work, but it’s already looking all kinds of fantastic. If you want to follow along with how this fan-made remake is shaping up, make sure to subscribe to Hugo Vasgestian dos Santos’ YouTube channel.

This really brings to mind the recent comment from Miyamoto:

"New developers [...] oftentimes aspire to create upgraded versions of the games they have played before, but I explain that game design is not about that."
