Zelda's voice actor would love to see the princess playable in an open-world Zelda
Back in the saddle
Nintendo recently gave Legend of Zelda fans something they’ve been asking for for decades. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom came to Switch just a few weeks back, and it finally made Zelda the playable protagonist. It’s something many were starting to think would never happen, but we’re all happy to be wrong about that!
Now that Zelda has gotten a game all to herself, people are wondering what’s next. Could Echoes of Wisdom pave the way for another Zelda installment where the princess takes the reigns? Furthermore, could that happen in a more traditional open-world Zelda game? If one person very close to Zelda has their way, that’ll indeed come to fruition.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Zelda voice actor Patricia Summersett (Zelda in Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom and more) was asked about her interest in Zelda being the playable protagonist in an open-world Zelda game, and not surprisingly, Summersett is all about it.
“I mean, that’d be amazing, wouldn’t it? I’m so happy for the fandom that they got Echoes of Wisdom, of course, but I mean, yeah, there can always be more playable Zelda as far as I’m concerned.”

I agree. Not as big or "3D" as BOTW, but still a very big adventure and definitely "open world".
And a surprisingly good game, despite the inventory management! I’d like to see another 4swords game before the next big 3D open world. Given the lengthy development process of open world Zeldas, perhaps they could design the game to have two playable characters - Link and Zelda (for different parts of the game).
