Nintendo gives Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom its spot on the Zelda timeline
Time to pay attention
With every Zelda title that releases, the game’s timeline expands. While Nintendo has made it very clear that they focus on gameplay first and story second, they still make sure to give each game in the franchise its timeline placement. Today, we finally get to learn where the latest Zelda title slots in.
Nintendo has updated the official Legend of Zelda timeline, and we can see that Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has been added to the “Hero is Defeated” timeline. We also see that it comes after Zelda: Tri Force Heroes and before The Legend of Zelda.
Here’s the official description Nintendo included with Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s timeline placement:
The hero Link sets out to rescue Princess Zelda, who was captured by Ganon. Following a fierce battle, Link defeats Ganon, only to be swallowed up by an eerie rift. It was as if he’d been stolen away…
All across Hyrule, more mysterious rifts are forming and taking the people of Hyrule away. Nobody is safe—not even the king himself and his advisers, who have also gone missing. Princess Zelda must set out on an adventure to save her father—the king of Hyrule—the people, and Link.

8d agoTimeline nerds need to accept that BOTW and TOTK exist in a separate continuity to the rest of the time. As illustrated by the same timeline on Nintendos site.
I still don’t see how TOTK could follow BOTW. Gannon is defeated in botw and then a few months later he is back in the form of Gannondorf, courtesy of TOTK.
PS. Sorry, accidentally submitted my reply as a report, mods please disregard!
The Ganon defeated in BOTW was just a manifestation of evil / malice from Ganondorf sealed beneath Hyrule castle. All instances of Calamity Ganon are manifestations from the Ganondorf sealed by Rauru ages ago.
I guess this is why BOTW and TOTK inhabit a separate timeline, as I had previously understood Ganon’s spirit preceding the man gannondorf, rather than emanating out of him.
