Fan game combines the worlds of Astro Bot and Mario

PlayStation 5 owners recently received an excellent 3D platformer in Astro Bot, which is one of the highest reviewed games of the year. It’s not often you see 3D platformers come about, and that’s especially true on the PlayStation side of things. The game’s release brought with it all kinds of comparisons to Mario and Nintendo’s work, and now a fan is taking that idea and running with it.

Hobbyist dev HotzTendo has revealed Astro Bot X Nintendo World, which combines gameplay, locations, enemies and more from both Astro Bot and various Mario games. You can see a bit of test gameplay in the video above, which shows off Astro Bot, a Goomba and Peach’s Castle.

Nintendo doesn’t take kindly to this kind of stuff, nor does Sony. There’s pretty much zero chance this project sees any kind of release, yet work continues. The question now is which company is going to swoop in to land the death blow first? In a week where Sony released LEGO Horizon Adventures on Switch, perhaps we’ll see Nintendo and Sony collab once more to squash this fan project.
