RPG dev cites Zelda as a major source of inspiration

The Legend of Zelda franchise has been a source of inspiration for developers pretty much since its first installment. Countless game creators have pointed to Zelda as a reason for getting into the industry and a franchise that helped inspired their own works. Even with the series being nearly 40 years old, it continues to motivate and influence developers to this day.
South Korean developer HOUND13 is currently working on Dragon Sword, a semi open world action RPG heading to mobile and PC. HOUND13 CEO Jung Sic Park recently spoke to 4Gamer about his work on the title, and it turns out one element of The Legend of Zelda franchise in particular has influenced the game’s work on Dragon Sword:
“I love Japan’s Legend of Zelda series and have always been interested in the freedom of movement that you find in those games. If we were going to introduce such movement in our game, we wanted to also increase it in terms of action and scale. So, in Dragon Sword, you can not only fly while mounted but also travel in various other ways.”
Dragon Sword is just the latest example of a game drawing from The Legend of Zelda. There’s no doubt going to be many more in the near future, and as Nintendo continues to innovate within their own franchise, they’ll give other budding devs reason to look towards the series as a high watermark for what’s possible.
